Opioid abuse is now the number one cause of accidental death in the United States, and young adults ages 18-25 have the highest rates of abuse of prescription opioids, stimulants, and anti-anxiety medications. Educating our students is more important than ever to combat the risks and harms associated with prescription drug misuse and abuse, and many campus administrators are wondering, “How does our school start to get ahead of this pernicious issue?”

In this webinar, participants will learn how to begin answering that question on their campus through EVERFI’s new online training program, Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention. Delivered via EVERFI’s innovative and scalable digital platform, this new tool uses an evidence-based, public health approach to empower students with the knowledge and skills they need to make safe and healthy decisions about prescription drugs.

In this session, participants will be provided with:

  • a brief overview of research on the scope of prescription drug *abuse and implications for institutions of higher education;
  • a review of the public health framework used to develop the Prescription Drug Abuse Prevention course;
  • a preview of the interactive lessons, scenario-based exercises, and social norms activities that are used throughout the course; and
  • a review of EVERFI’s prevention and compliance course catalog.
